Harry Brewer,
Psychotherapist & Counsellor
Integrative psychotherapist and counsellor working in north-east London and online
My Approach
I draw from the psychodynamic, existential, person-centred, and cognitive-behavioural traditions, enabling me to tailor therapy to to people on an individual basis
Ultimately, this is rooted in my belief that people’s therapeutic needs are unique and that therapy should reflect this

FAQs

I offer a free 20-minute Zoom consultation to get a sense of what you would like from therapy, and whether we would be a good fit.
I will then send you an informal contract containing information about me and the therapeutic space (explaining the timings of sessions and what happens in the event of cancellations or missed appointments), and we can set about booking you in for an first session.
-
Following on from the initial consultation, we will discuss what has brought you to therapy, your hopes for the work, a little bit about your background, as well as anything else you would like me to know about you.
I usually suggest a further two sessions after the initial meeting to decide if we think continuing the work would be beneficial.
If you are happy to proceed, we will agree on a weekly slot that works for you.

Therapy provides a confidential, judgement-free space for you to explore and work through the issues that prevent you from living a full life.
So much of what troubles us, and therefore often gets discussed in therapeutic work, has its roots in unexpressed feelings and unconscious processes. As such, my work pays particular attention to emotional landscapes and the ways in which past experiences can impact our navigation of the present.
Above all, however, I believe that therapy is a collaborative process. Because of this, finding out what the work will look like for you can be an important part of the process. Ultimately, I am led by my clients.

I see clients in person in Walthamstow at https://www.eastlondontherapy.com (one minute from Walthamstow Central tube).
I also work with people online via Zoom.

Unfortunately, there is no universal rule when it comes to the length of the therapy—sometimes it can be concluded after a few months, sometimes deeper, long-term work may be more beneficial.
Because of this, I usually work on an open-ended basis, meaning that we would continue to discuss the trajectory of the therapy at regular intervals.

The fee for a fifty-minute session is £75.
I have a limited number of spaces for clients at concessionary rates. Please contact me for more information.

I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for data protection.
Following guidance from my governing body, I aim to be fully compliant with current GDPR legislation and to let you know how I use and protect the data you give to me. I wish to be transparent with regard to the processes I have in place. Identifiable information, if shared, will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.
NOTE-KEEPING
I do not usually keep process notes. When I decide to do so, I shred and dispose of this confidential material as soon as possible, often after supervision. I keep minimal content notes, which I hold for seven years. After this time frame, they are disposed of securely. These notes are accessed only by me, unless I am required by law or court order to disclose information.
You have a right to see the information I hold about you should you wish to. You have a right to change any information which you consider to be incorrect. Though there are some details I need to keep due to legal and professional obligations, you can ask me to delete all/any of the information that I hold by emailing me at hb-therapy@hotmail.com. I occasionally use creative interventions, but any drawings or art done in session is yours. I will store this material safely and dispose of it in a timely manner. I will never use any of your data/artworks for writing, publishing, research or training purposes.
DATA STORAGE
I promise to keep all sensitive data safely. This involves my anonymising, using passwords and encrypted documents. I keep all written notes in a locked document store and dispose of them after seven years. No one but myself, as data processor and controller in my practice, has access to the information gathered and held during our work together.
While we work together, I store your name, phone number, GP details, and email address in an encrypted database, which is protected by a password. When we discontinue working, I retain your name, phone number and email address, together with the location, starting and ending dates of our work together in the same protected environment.
I do not store any of your personal details on my mobile phone. I only contact you in response to you or concerning appointments. I dispose of client emails and text messages regularly. I do not engage with clients through any social media.
SUPERVISION
I have ongoing supervision to support and ensure my practice is safe. When I share client material or images this is always done confidentially, protecting your identity.
